Let me start out in saying that I’m OBSESSED with Pinterest! There, now that that’s out of the way let me get to the point.
Its good to have a hobby, actually GREAT and as a Mom we very rarely find time to schedule some us time and focus on our little crafty projects (if that’s your hobby) or gym or whatever it is. So we turn to Pinterest and pin away happily and have these wonderful visions and ideas in our minds of all the lovely things we’d like to make and do. Some on our own, some involving the kids, others for our home. And as the list grows we realize that this, all of this requires time and effort which (I can only speak of myself) is seriously lacking. And why? Because we’re Moms and have responsibilities, towards our Spouses, our Children, our animals, our Family, our work and Home.
We’re tired, we’re in demand and when we get those 10 extra minutes in the day, I choose to sit on my couch, scroll through my social media feeds, watch 10min of something on tv or I choose to sleep. Very productive I know!
About a month ago I decided that enough was enough and I was finally going to DO SOMETHING, anything other than what I normally do. Be creative, do something productive.
My first project was a room makeover for Joshuah and I think the result was great, for my first DIY project which included painting, drilling, moving, packing, sorting I enjoyed myself.
The second was Dannys room and his wonderful desk, which is done! Will do separate post for his room.
Next on my list was to learn how to crochet, which BOOM I’ve learnt all the basics and I’m on my way to building my granny square collection which will one day be used for a very special blanket.
The second to last thing for now was giving our room a bit of life. I’ve bought things here and there to assist in this jazzing up process but just have no gotten around to actually doing it. So this will be the task for the next few weekends. Baby steps, I want to paint my dresser and Carls pedestal but not too sure whether I should do black or white. We have a black bed set, so I’m thinking do black for the dresser and Carls pedestal. I’ve added a rug to the room, solely for my benefit and not because its practical at all. But waking up for Josh during the night and having my warm feet hit those cold tiles is just not something I’m up for this winter. In saying that I think it actually brings my black and white theme together. Then for the wall I’d like to do my gold circles and put up our initials and my little boy and girl wooden figures. Then we’re done.
Last on the list was doing something about my couches. We inherited these so not my first or last colour choice, but they’re comfortable and Carl likes them. But the colour just bothers me SO MUCH. Its not ugly at all, its just not a colour I particularly like and we’re definitely not going to buy a new set because of the colour (as Carl told me). I’ve tried the throws, tried the different scatter cushions but just cannot seem to get over the colour. This frustration made me turn to good old faithful Pinterest where I found this rub ‘n restore leather balm, actually more of a stain which I’m so nervous about trying. I ordered it online from the great US of A and received it in the mail almost a year ago. Since then it has been laying in the garage gathering dust. Initially I wanted to take black, but I had a red and brown thing going, so I opted for a dark chocolate brown. Now the lounge is black and white with pops of yellow which is SO NOT GOING TO WORK ANYMORE. So its revert back to red and brown / black for me, and hopefully I’ll be happy. Big concern is if it doesn’t work, we then sit with messed up couches. Fail. My plan is to first test a small area somewhere on the couch, if I like it I’ll do the entire set. If I don’t, no harm done. The other option is to have the couches recovered next year. Also a big schlep. Or just buy something that works for us.
What the moral of this story, STOP PINNING AND START DOING!
