Love to Dream: Swaddle UP

The secret to a great night sleep for both Mom and baby is the right swaddle.

Generally most newborns prefer to sleep in the comfort of a swaddle blanket or swaddle sack.

As most of my readers should know I was expecting a baby girl in November, and thank you God she arrived safely on 5thNovember at 13:25pm.

Welcome to the world little Grace Leigh!

Love to Dream Swaddle UP™  stage 1 review

Swaddle

When Grace was born we soon realized that she preferred to be swaddled when it came to naps and sleeps as this ensured she slept longer, and that with being swaddled she wasn’t able to scratch her face but she was a wiggly squirmy worm and no matter how many times we wrapped her she still managed to get her hands out and do serious damage to her delicate little face.

When I received a mail to test the Swaddle UP™ with our new baby I was excited, both my boys loved being swaddled so the concept was not new to us. However the design was something new. Its amazing how baby things change with time, in 5 years there’s been so many new gadgets and things on the market and I cannot wait to share these with you on my new Mom journey.

The unique design

Unlike traditional swaddles that keep a babies arms by their side or across their chest, the unique arms up design of our Swaddle UP™ replicates your baby’s behaviour in the womb, allowing the natural arms up position and movement of their hands to the mouth to truly self-soothe.

We started using the Swaddle UP™ when Grace was 4 days old and have used it every night since then.

Swaddle

Keeping your baby safe while sleeping is absolutely critical and swaddling or wrapping is a useful way to help your baby settle and sleep on their back.

Hana-Lia Krawchuk, founder of Love To Dream™, & the inventor of the 3-Stage Sleep system™, knows that necessity really is the mother of invention.

Make Sleep Simple

The Genius Newborn to Toddler Sleep System

As world leaders in sleep innovation, we understand the importance of sleep for you and your baby. That’s why we’ve tailored our one-of-a-kind designs across every chapter of a young child’s life.

Our three stage approach makes sleeping as easy as A-B-Zzzz!

One thing that stresses me out completely is whether or not my baby is breathing during the night, I think every new parent (whether this is baby number 1, 2 or 10) has that constant worry about SIDS. Have you gotten up during the night to check if your baby is breathing? There that fine line of waking them up accidently or feeling their chest / putting your hand under their nose to ensure they’re safe and healthy.

This has been a challenge in our home, the Hubby is adamant Grace should be in her own cot in her room (thankfully we’re moving soon so she doesn’t have a room set up yet here) and I feel like I need her with me at all times.

Our compromise has been to get a crib for our room where she will sleep at night, therefore close enough to monitor but far enough for her to learn how to self soothe and fast asleep by herself. This is where the Swaddle UP™ comes in handy.

The benefits of swaddling your baby

Swaddling has a number of key benefits for both parents and babies – when done correctly and safely:

    • Swaddled babies sleep longer and experience less anxiety.
    • Swaddling prevents your baby waking up unnecessarily due to the startle reflex.
    • Swaddling prevents your baby from scratching themselves.
    • Swaddling mimics touch, which is important for baby especially when they wake up at night.
    • Swaddling helps maintain the back-sleeping position and also reminds tired parents to place baby on their back to sleep.
    • Swaddling with the arms up is the preferred sleeping position for babies; in this position they learn to self-soothe and can get back to sleep on their own.
  • Swaddling benefits parents too — when baby sleeps more, SO DO YOU!

How to ensure you’re practicing safe baby swaddling

  • Do not over swaddle your newborn.

This is something you’re not able to do when using the Love to Dream Swaddle UP™. There is also a guideline on what to dress your baby in during different seasons in their swaddle.

  • Ensure that your swaddle cannot unravel causing blankets to go over a baby’s head and potentially restrict their airways.

Due to the smart zip up design it reduces the risk of your baby unraveling in their sleep.

  • Position your baby on their backs, not on their tummy or side. Back sleeping increases a baby’s access to fresh air and makes them less likely to get overheated.

Swaddle UP™ is made from ONE breathable layer of 360 degree stretch Cotton, helping to reduce the risk of overheating.

  • Do not swaddle your baby too tightly.

When you adhere to the different age grouping and stages of the Swaddle UP™ this would not happen.

Stage 1: 0 – 4 months

Stage 2: 4 – 8 months

Stage 3: 4 – 36 months

  • Avoid placing anything in your baby’s crib or cot.

Having your baby in the Swaddle UP™ ensures that you eliminate any excess fabric and blankets in your baby’s crib / cot. It’s a blanket and comfort item in one.

  • Ensure that your baby is comfortable at all times.

Two-way zipper means that nappy changing is easier, no seams inside the Swaddle UP™ ensures that baby remains comfortable while swaddled.

We’ve used the Swaddle UP™ for exactly 2 weeks and touch wood, sleep has not been an issue at all with Grace. She’s safe, secure, comfortable and sleep time is no longer a daunting task but a relaxed and calm one.

Happy baby = Happy Mommy!
